In the Beginning

Number one, the first, the original -- that's what this is, the first of eldells journal entries.

The purpose is to document what is happening with me and to me as I approach 60.

59 has been a tough year. Job loss, mother's decline and illness, discovery of my adoption, selling our house. All of them major problems that led to depression, from which I am just starting to emerge.

I know I'm not alone. I have great support from my wife, my daughters Amanda and Leah other family and friends. Without them I'd be lost.

I've never had a crisis like this in my life. Religious people say it's a test, others say take one step at a time. Whatever the strategy I'm determined to persevere and win in the end. This journal will tell that story as it plays out in the weeks and months to come.
